THE CROWN by PABLO MOYA

Seaburgh is a town near the sea where I live. Plaxton (is a friend) was in my house and he told me a story that happens to Plaxton. Plaxton was in an old church and he saw a picture of three crowns, and he asked to a man: Do you know anything about this picture? The man said that there were three crowns in England and they were magic because they protected the country. The man said that one of the three crowns was in Seaburgh! The man said that only the family Agers knew something about the crown, because this family protected the crown. Paxton wanted to ask more questions but the man went. The last of the Agers family was Williams Agers but Paxton saw the tomb of Williams Agers. They said that Williams Agers was a man that always was in a hill. So Paxton thought: If Williams Agers went always there, it means that the crown is there. Paxton went and he dig and took the crown. I have it! And this is the end of the story. I didn’t believe it but he showed me a bag where the crown was there. Plaxton wanted to turn it back to the place where the crown was. I went with him.
As Williams Agers died protecting the Crown, Plaxton died because he also was protecting the Crown.

One day Mr. Sherlock Holmes and Dr.Watson received a visit from a friend of Sherlock Holmes called Mr. Mortimer. He told them that Sir. Charles of Baskerville died and he told them the story: Hugo Baskerville fell in love with a women but she didn’t want to marry him so Hugo with his friends kidnapped her. She escaped and ran across the moor as far as possible but Hugo’s friends found his horse but they didn’t find him. Then they found the body of Hugo and the girl dead. Since then no one was the same. Dr. Mortimer said a secret to them. He said that when the battler found his body he had footprints on him, the footprints were of a giant hound. The only heir from America is Henry. Sherlock said to Mr. Mortimer that he wanted to meet him the next day. The next day Sherlock and Watson met Henry. He said that he found a note in his door that said: “If you want to live, stay away from the moor”. Then they lived in the Sherlocks and Watson’s house. Sherlock said to Watson to follow them. They discovered that a man was following them with a cab of horses, when the man knew that they were following him he said to the driver to go faster. Sherlock sent Watson to go with Henry and Devon. When they arrived, Dr. Mortimer asked the driver what was happening because it was a man with a gun. The driver said that they were looking for a prisoner of the local prison. The next day Watson went for a walk and then he followed a path, he met Stapleton and her sister and they invited him to have a tea. His sister said that henry had to go away from this place because he was very dangerous for him. At night Dr. Watson saw Barrymore looking at the window. He and Harry decided to wait for him the next night. They discovered that Mr. Barrymore was doing a sign with the candle to the moor and he got an answer. Mrs. Barrymore explained that they were telling his brother (the prisoner) that they had food for him. Mr. Harry told them to go to their room and they went to look for the prisoner. He escaped but they found another man on a rock. Mr. Watson decided to go and looked for him, and he found a cave. The man was Sherlock Holmes and he discovered that Miss Stapleton was not Mr. Stapleton’s sister, she was his wife. When they were talking in the cave they heard a scream. They thought that Henry Baskerville was dead on the ground because he was wearing his jacket, but he was the prisoner. They thought that Stapleton was the murderer. They went to talk to Henry and they were looking at the family pictures. Then they saw a picture of Stapleton and they discovered he was a Baskerville. Sherlock had a plan. He said to Henry if he could say to Stapleton that they had returned to London, and also he asked him that he returned home walking across the moor after having dinner with Stapleton. The hound tried to kill Henry but Holmes and Watson killed the hound with their guns. Then they were where Stapleton kept the hound and they found the boot of Mr Henry.

They discovered that Stapleton had a hound and used him to kill the Baskerville family. After that case they went to celebrate it to the opera.

HOW TO BE AN ALIEN by INES PELLICER

First I’m going to start with how weird this book is, it is the weirdest book I have ever read before it is just a type of book that you do not see very often.
This book was about a man talking about differences between English people European people and British people. He tells you how to be rude how to be nice and even what words to use if you want to seem intelligent. There were 24 chapters that were about everyday situations and how they changed between different kind of people.
Personally my favourite chapter was number 16 A Bloomsbury Intellectual*
This chapter was about a kind of people that wanted to be different to each other. They wanted to have new and innovating ideas, they even wanted to look different so they dressed up with different coloured clothes just because they wanted people to think they didn’t matter about how they looked.
In this chapter the man gives you instructions of how to have a 3-day beard and how to shave a 4-day beard for it to look like a 3-day beard…, I think it is strange for a book but funny and interesting at the same time.
For being this type of people, you have to be kind or rude to other people, for example you don’t have to say, “thank you” or even “Hello”!!!
I loved this chapter because I would love to be this kind of people, I want to be part of the B.I club.
I think I will remember this book for ever!!!

HOW TO BE AN ALIEN by NURIA ESCOMS

George Mikes has written this book trying to talk about the differences about English people and other people.
In England, people have some tea at five o’clock and the European people don’t, they have it at seven o’clock as well.
For English people, weather is very important too and for other people, like us, it isn’t.
If an English person asks you a question you have to say yes, for example they say: good day, isn’t it? you answer always with: Yes, it is.
Other people are not going to say yes, if you don’t want to say it.
He is always talking about the fact that English people are really different from other Europeans and, they are proud of it.
In my opinion: I liked it because I have learnt things about England that are different from Europeans and it is good to know things about other countries.

DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE by ADRIA TEROL

The book that I read is called Dr.Jekyll & Mr.Hyde, the story is about a mistery and the story starts:

One Sunday two men were walking and saw a door that little by little was opening, there was a little girl and a man that was like scaping, the girl screamed but the man trampled her. The man has a scary face with the eyes very dark and his mouth twisted into a sinister sneer. After the accident of that night one man called Mr. Utterson started to investigate, he investigated more than the other man.
After lots of weeks looking for Mr. Hyde (the evil man), Dr. Jekyll invited the two men for dinner. Two months later, Mr. Utterlos and Mr. Lanyon were in a walk and they wanted to visit Dr.Jekyll but he had a very strong pain in the stomach he was nearly in his last day of life!
After some days they visited a man that told them about Mr. Hyde, he told them that he entered one day into his house and took a jar with something similar to salt but with a pink colour, he mixed with water and he drank it, he started to have a strong pain in the stomach.
After some weeks they visited the laboratory of Dr. Jekyll but instead of being him was Mr. Hyde, he read a note that was next to he and it puts that Dr. Jekyll wanted to separate the man in being evil and good, he drank the liquid and became into the evil man! (Mr. Hyde)
He drank a bit again and returned to be Dr.Jekyll He drank a lot so that was the reason of the stomachache, the pain was so huge that that day he died.

SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA by MARCEL.LA TARRASSÓ

Sherlock Holmes is a person who lives in England. He is the normal English man, who wears the typical hat and is well dressed and with the elliptical black cane.
He is a personal detective (what I thought) who helps people to resolve whatever they need, well that is if Sherlock Holmes accepted.
One day a man came towards Holmes and asked for help, the man had a mask, so he couldn’t see who really was. Meanwhile, the man said to Holmes who he was. He was the King of Bohemia asking for help. This case was about the King who had a photo with a girl and if she was seen, the King couldn’t imagine what could happened.
Then it was The Red- Headed League, who was about a man who talked about a red headed league and a friend finally went. It was like a job that each week they won 4 pounds. Everything was fine, but suddenly the Red-Headed League closed. He decided to go to get Holmes because he suspected something. He was right, Holmes suddenly said, a crime will happen tonight. Fortunately, they stopped the crime with the two friends of Holmes who were called; Inspector Lestrade and Mr Merryweather.
Then was another case The Boscombe Lake Mystery. This case was different it was Holmes who needed his friend’s help. They went to Boscombe. Holmes explained the problem: a man was dead. Holmes wanted to find out, because the police thought that there wasn’t any mystery. It was the dead of a father and a son. He started to explain about the family and then the story that happened. The dead was published in the newspaper. The person who was in the newspaper was the son of Mc Carthy explaining what happened. Holmes finally told everything about his discovers to the police, all what he founded around the league, all the information, but they and Holmes himself never knew the true story.

THE CANTERVILLE GHOST by PAULA LLACER

This book has got three different stories. The first, the Canterville ghost, was a story about an American family that went on holidays to Canterville, they were very rich, and they bought the haunted house in Canterville that had a ghost in it. In the story they tell us that the American family didn’t get scared about the ghost, it was the other way round! The ghost was angry with the family because they didn’t get scared, besides he was scared about the twins in the family because of their ``funny´´ jokes. The ghost has to find the way to frighten the family and get them out of the house, but, is that his real objective?
The second story (my favourite one) was about a man called Arthur that went to a party, in there, there was a chiromantist that read the future of the people by their hands. Arthur tried it and the chiromantist told him that in the future he would 4@3#0=7&, but he didn’t say who (but I think he knew it because of his face expression). Arthur was frightened because he was going to marry soon, and he didn’t want to 4@3#0=7& meanwhile he was married, so he decided to do it before the wedding. He postposed the wedding and made a list with his friends, after a long thought he decided what to do. He tried it, but it wasn’t as easy as he thought. In the end he had a happy wedding with his wife.
This last story was about a man that fell in love with a beautiful girl, the only problem of that girl was that she always hided something, the men was always curious about the secret, but the woman still didn’t tell him the truth, it’s a good story and also short but I ’ve liked more the others.
I would recommend this book because, although that I didn’t like the third one, the first two stories are very good, so you should read it.

RAIN MAN by MARTA FERNANDEZ

The book that I have read is about a man who has a company that sells cars. One day he received a call from the secretary of his father’s lawyer. The secretary told him that his father had died, unfortunately, she also announced that on that Saturday the notary would open the will of his father and on Sunday it would be his funeral. The business man called Charlie went to Cincinati with his girlfriend to open the will. When he opened the will, he saw that he only owned an old car and some roses and for one person that his father thought he was not going to spend money on something like that. Charlie was very angry because it did not seem fair someone else belonged more valuable things than he had erected. He made a small one as an interrogation too the notary to elicit who was heir of the three million dollars and the house.
